Abhishek Sharma to miss 2nd T20I

Indian opener Abhishek Sharms is doubtful for the second T20I against England in Chennai on Saturday. The southpaw reportedly twisted his ankle during a training session at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

Sharma played a blinder of a knock to help India win the first T20I in Kolkata. He scored 79 off 34 balls hitting five fours and as many as eight sixes in his innings.

With the southpaw unlikely to play, an opportunity opens up for Dhruv Jurel who is part of the squad as well. He might get drafted into the XI in place of the Punjab batter. The rest of the batting-order is expected to be the same.

Sanju Samson Likely To Open With Dhruv Jurel In Abhishek Sharma's Absence

Sanju Samson scored a quickfire 26 opening the innings and Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav was out for a duck. Both these premier batters would like to get some runs in this game. This is an important game for Samson as well who looked good till he scored those 26 runs in the first T20I but was out in a rather unfortunate manner. With him not selected for the Champions Trophy, every T20I innings is important for the Kerala batter.

Reports previously said that Gautam Gambhir wanted Samson to be included in the Champions Trophy squad instead of Rishabh Pant. However, Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma voted for Pant and he was in.

Mohammed Shami's T20I Return Awaited

Another selection dilemma in the Indian squad could be that of Mohammed Shami. He was primed to play in the first T20I, but his last-minute non-selection was a shocker for the Indian fans. His return is much anticipated for the second T20I in Chennai. The 34-year-old was also part of throwing drills for a few minutes with fielding coach T Dilip. All eyes will be on the veteran seamer as the cricket fraternity has been waiting with bated breath for his national team comeback.

England have also announced their playing XI for the second T20I with pacer Brydon Carse replacing Gus Atkinson. They have decided to go with just one spinner in Adil Rashid. Their batters will need to bat batter at the Chepauk.
