CAB Submits May 3 Weather Report, Requests BCCI to Keep Kolkata as Final Venue

Eden Gardens Kolkata

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) not to change the venue for the final match, as there are plans to potentially move it to Ahmedabad.

Weather Concerns Prompt BCCI to Reconsider Kolkata for June 3 Finale

Eden Gardens in Kolkata was designated as the primary venue for the finals, following the Kolkata Knight Riders’ championship win last year. However, the venue may be changed due to the tournament's temporary suspension resulting from the India-Pakistan military conflict. This situation has led the BCCI to streamline the competition to a limited number of venues in order to finish the tournament quickly, with the finals scheduled for June 3, just as Phase 2 begins on May 17.

Currently, the BCCI has shortlisted two potential venues in Ahmedabad and Mumbai for the finals, with Kolkata being left out due to concerns about potential rain starting in the first week of June.

The CAB has approached the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata for a weather report regarding conditions expected on June 3. The report from the meteorological office, which has been submitted to the BCCI, clearly states that it is too early to make accurate weather predictions, noting that more reliable forecasts can only be made around May 25.

The CAB argues that relying on early weather predictions to determine the final venue is unfair since weather patterns are inherently unpredictable. A CAB representative commented,

“We remain confident that things will work out because we have done a very good job in organizing everything. Additionally, one cannot predict weather patterns so early, and we have submitted all official documents to this effect.”

The final decision regarding the venue for the finals now rests with the BCCI. If Eden Gardens is ultimately unable to host the final match, it has been reported that the venue may be compensated by hosting the finals or semi-finals of the ICC World Cup T20 2026 scheduled to take place in India.
