The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally broke the jinx of winning the maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in the 18th edition of the T20 League on Tuesday, June 03, in Ahmedabad. RCB beat PBKS by six runs to etch their name in the history books. The IPL win was a fitting tribute to star player Virat Kohli, who has only played for one franchise for 18 long years. Naturally, he was very emotional after RCB had its moment, which their fans have so desperately been waiting for. Alongside Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle have also tried hard to get their hands on the elusive trophy.

While the legendary duo could not have an IPL trophy in their playing days, Kohli ensured the duo had their dreamy moment as he called them on the stage for an iconic picture. The Indian superstar also paid a fitting tribute to AB, who still holds the record for most POTM awards in IPL's history, as he has won 25 times.

"What ABD has done for the franchise is tremendous, told him 'This win is as much yours as it is ours. I want you to celebrate with us. He's been the POTM most times in the franchise despite being retired for four years. Tells you the impact he's had on the league, the team, and me. He deserves to be on the podium, lifting the cup."

RCB finally break the jinx after wait of 18 years

For the unversed, Virat Kohli started playing for RCB as a teenager. He was snapped up by the franchise for INR 20 Lakhs way back in 2008. He has literally witnessed all with the franchise - right from being mocked for not being all out for the lowest score to being revered for posting the highest total in 2013. The star has enjoyed a roller coaster ride and has witnessed the franchise transform from an ordinary side to a champion side in the last few years.

Kohli has also helped young players like Rajat Patidar, Jitesh Sharma, and Yash Dayal evolve into better cricketers. After the veteran cricketer finally laid hands on the trophy, there was a sense of relief and containment on his face.

“It's not just a title. It's 18 years of belief, of commitment, of giving everything,” Kohli reflected after the match.
