India beat New Zealand by four wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai to win the title for the third time. India won the Champions Trophy after more than a decade with MS Dhoni last winning it as captain back in 2013.
The Men in Blue successfully chased the target down and won the match with four wickets and six balls to spare. Chasing 252 to win, it was a chase of two halves for the Indian cricket team.
Rohit Sharma (76 off 83) and Shubman Gill (31 off 50) added 105 runs for the first wicket. It was Rohit who dominated in that partnership not allowing the Kiwi bowlers to come to come into the game at all. The partnership was broken as Gill was the first wicket to fall with Glenn Phillips taking a special catch.

India End Decade - Long Wait To Win ICC Champions Trophy
Gill and Virat Kohli (1 off 2) fell in back to back overs for India silencing the Indian fans in Dubai. In an effort to up the ante, Rohit Sharma lost his wicket in the 27th over of the innings with India at 122/3.
The Kiwi spinners controlled the game very well from the 20th to the 40th over. They did not allow the Indian middle-order to run away with the game. Shreyas Iyer backed his consistent run with another brilliant performance with the bat. He scored (48 off 62 balls) and added a 61-run stand with Axar Patel (29 off 40) who played his part in the run chase. Iyer fell in the 39th over and Patel was dismissed in the 42nd over with India still requiring nearly 50 runs to win the game.
From there on, KL Rahul kept a cool head and scored an unbeaten 34 off 33 balls to win the match for India. Hardik Pandya played a timely cameo scoring 18 off 18 balls. The winning runs were scored by Ravindra Jadeja who hit William ORourke for a boundary over square leg to clinch the game for India.
Earlier, the Kiwis won the toss and opted to bat first. They posted 251/7 after fifties from Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell. With the ball, they made the Indians earn their runs in the middle-overs. In the end, Jadeja and Rahul kept their calm to win the game for India.
Rohit Sharma has now won his second major title as captain in back to back years. He won the T20 World Cup in 2024 and followed it up with the Champions Trophy title in 2025. This win brought an end to India's decade-long wait to win the ICC Champions Trophy as well. Rohit Sharma was named the Player Of The Match for his match-winning 76 runs.
