Akash Deep maiden Test fifer

Indian pacer Akash Deep picked up his maiden Test fifer in the second session of the final day's play at Edgbaston. He picked up the key wicket of Jamie Smith to give India a huge lead heading into the final session.

Smith scored 88 runs off 99 balls and was looking to take on the bouncers bowled at him by the Indian bowlers. Smith was playing positively and aggressively since the time he walked out to bat.

First, he added a 70-run stand with Ben Stokes (33 runs off 73 balls). Stokes was dismissed on the brink of lunch when Washington Sundar trapped him in front and umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat adjudged him out. Stokes took the review but the decision went in India's favour.

Akash Deep's Maiden Test Fifer

After Stokes, Jamie Smith was the key wicket for England and Akash Deep finally had his man in the 56th over after Smith hit him for two sixes. He got him caught at the deep square-leg after Smith was fancying on the Indian pacer. The delivery which dismissed him was a slower delivery that drove Smith early into the shot and he was caught well inside the boundary line by Sundar.

Before Smith, Akash Deep picked up the key wickets of Ben Duckett (25 runs off 15 balls) Ollie Pope (24 runs off 50 balls) and Joe Root (6 runs off 16 balls) to give India a huge advantage heading into day five. It was Akash Deep again who dismissed Harry Brook with an inswinger that trapped him right in front of the wickets. Brook failed to read the pace and the movement of the delivery and was found dumbfounded in front.
