Vaibhav Suryavanshi on Monday, April 28, became the youngest player to score a century in the IPL. His match-winning ton propelled the Rajasthan Royals to their third win of the season.
RR defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 8 wickets as they chased down 210 runs to win inside 15.5 overs. They had to win this game to stay alive in this tournament, and Vaibhav ensured that they did it in style.
After his first two knocks against Lucknow Super Giants (34 runs off 20 balls) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (16 runs off 12 balls), the southpaw scored his maiden IPL ton in just his third innings in the IPL.

In the process, he became the youngest ever to score an IPL century and became the fastest Indian batter to score a century in the IPL as well. He overtook Yusuf Pathan, who scored his maiden IPL ton in just 37 deliveries against MI in 2010. He bettered him by scoring a hundred in just 35 deliveries.
Meanwhile, a picture of him as a six-year-old is making the rounds on social media. In 2017, when he was six years old, he went to Pune to support the Rising Pune Super Giants, who played in the IPL for two seasons. That team was also owned by Dr. Sanjiv Goenka, who now owns the Lucknow Super Giants.
He congratulated the kid on his achievement on Monday night by writing a message for him on Twitter. "Last night I watched in awe… this morning I came across this photo of 6-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi cheering for my then team, Rising Pune Supergiant, in 2017. Thanks, Vaibhav. Lots of good wishes and support" he wrote on his Twitter handle.
Incidentally, it was against Dr. Sajiv Goenka's team, LSG, that the world got to see Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the first time. RR gave him his debut cap in that game, and he started off his IPL career with a six against Shardul Thakur. He played a few lovely shots as the cricketing world saw his first promise.
Scoring the century against GT, he broke several records and went into the record books in the IPL. More importantly, he has kept his side still alive in IPL 2025 for a playoff spot. The Royals take on the Mumbai Indians in their next game on May 1.
