Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja

Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja propelled the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a total of 175 runs in their 20 overs, while Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner each took 2 wickets for the Mumbai Indians.

The young opening pair of Rachin Ravindra and Shaik Rasheed opened the innings for CSK after being put to bat first by Hardik Pandya. Deepak Chahar took the new ball to start the proceedings for the Mumbai Indians. The Super Kings had a slow start despite a few nice shots, largely due to Mumbai's impressive fielding, which prevented CSK from hitting boundaries until the third over. Ashwani Kumar drew first blood for MI by dismissing Rachin Ravindra with a cross-seam delivery.

Debut to Remember - Ayush Mhatre

Seventeen-year-old Ayush Mhatre came in next for CSK and made an immediate impact, starting his innings with a boundary followed by two sixes against Ashwani Kumar. This early display of intent helped CSK's score quicken during the powerplay. Meanwhile, Shaik Rasheed played a more measured innings. CSK finished the powerplay at 48/1.

Ayush continued to showcase his attacking style, hitting two more boundaries after the fielding restrictions were lifted. However, his innings came to a sudden end when Deepak Chahar bowled a sharp bouncer that was top-edged and caught by Mitchell Santner. Mhatre's 32 runs off 15 balls was a remarkable debut performance in the IPL.

One wicket brought another, as Mitchell Santner's flighted delivery, turning sharply, deceived Shaik Rasheed, who was stumped by Ryan Rickelton. Shivam Dube joined Ravindra Jadeja in the middle, and at this point, CSK was 60/3 at the end of 7 overs.

After Ayush's aggressive performance in the powerplay, CSK faced some excellent bowling, managing only 71 runs for 3 wickets by the end of the 11th over. The run rate slowed to below 7 at the end of the 12th over.

Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube Key Partnership

As the boundaries became less frequent, Shivam Dube managed to hit one, followed by Jadeja. The shackles finally broke, and CSK began to score boundaries again. Dube found his rhythm, hitting six after six and reaching his half-century in just 30 balls.

At this point, CSK had reached 142/3 when Hardik Pandya brought Jasprit Bumrah into the attack. Bumrah immediately broke the 79-run partnership by dismissing Shivam Dube for 50 runs off 31 balls. MS Dhoni entered the field to a huge roar from the crowd, but Bumrah kept him quiet, and both he and Mitchell Santner bowled exceptionally well, limiting the boundaries as CSK reached 150 runs by the end of the 18th over with two overs remaining.

Bumrah returned to finish his over, and Jadeja managed to find a boundary, aided by a misfield from Will Jacks. However, Bumrah quickly bounced back, striking another big blow by dismissing MS Dhoni, who was caught by Tilak Varma in the deep. Bumrah conceded one more boundary, leaving CSK at 159/5 with just six balls to go.

CSK Finishes Well

Trent Boult was given the last over as he delivered some good yorkers to begin the over with but Ravindra Jadeja was able to clear a maximums and followed by a boundary which got them 16 in the last over as Chennai Super Kings ends their 1st innings with 175/5 in 20 overs. Setting a target of 176 for Mumbai Indians in 20 overs. Stay tuned for second innings highlights.
