The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is likely to be held in the second or third week of December, with 13-15 likely emerging as dates for the mini-auction. The 10 franchise officials, who have had discussions with BCCI authorities, have suggested these dates, although there is not yet an official confirmation from the IPL Governing Council.

According to the Cricbuzz report, the place of auction has not been finalized, and there is no indication that the auction might be held overseas, just like the previous IPL 2024 auction was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Franchises officials indicate that they won't be surprised if the mini-auction is held in India itself. Again, there is no decision taken on it yet.

However, the retention deadline is locked in on November 15. Franchises have to submit the names of the players they wish to let go. There is no possible indications of a major shake-up amongst the 10 franchises, except from Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who ended up finishing bottom of the points table.

Among the players CSK are likely to be released are Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran, and even Devon Conway. The Men in Yellow already have a huge purse of INR 9.75 Crores in the purse due to Ravi Ashwin's retirement from IPL. Meanwhile, Royals are planning to let of their skipper and keeper-batter Sanju Samson. They also have plans to let go of Sri Lanka's spin twins Wanindu Hasaranga, Theekshana, but with Kumar Sangakkara back at the helm as head coach, the duo might just retain their spots for now.

Cameron Green the likely to be the biggest attraction at auction

Going by the early speculation, Australia all-rounder Cameron Green is expected to be one of the hottest buys in the mini-auction. The youngster missed the IPL 2024 mega auction due to being injured, but has already attracted interest from several of the top IPL franchises due to his all-round prowess.
