Punjab Kings (PBKS) will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 22 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season on Tuesday, April 08. PBKS suffered their first defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals (RR), while CSK is coming off a three-game losing streak. They are placed ninth in the points table and are in need of a desperate revival.
After winning against MI in their first game, CSK has been handed three heavy defeats by RCB, RR, and DC. Batting has been a significant letdown for these losses, with none of the batters playing with intent. CSK always prides itself on having solid depth in the batting department; however, so far in the IPL 2025 season, none of their top seven batters are able to strike above 150.

PBKS vs CSK Match Preview
PBKS started the IPL 2025 season with a bang by winning two games on the bounce against GT and LSG before losing their third game against RR at their home ground in Mullanpur. It is to be noted that PBKS has a very dismal record at this venue, losing five out of the six games that they have played. With still four matches to be played here, Shreyas Iyer & Co. would be keen to rectify this disastrous record.
Batting has looked solid for the PBKS, with the likes of Shreyas, Prabhsimran Singh, Shashank Singh, and Nehal Wadhera amongst the runs. Bowling has looked a bit patchy as the experienced duo of Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal have not fired as they would have hoped for. Lockie Ferguson's addition to the playing XI has been an added boost for the side, and it remains to be seen if he manages to consistently chip in with wickets in the middle phase of the innings.
On the other hand, CSK's batting has been a sorry figure so far. The ever-so-reliant Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra have not been among the runs. The middle order is lacking an X-factor player who can drive the game in the middle phase of the innings. Shivam Dube, who was so good for CSK in the last two years, has failed to get going this season. Also, Vijay Shankar, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni have struggled for timing in the fag end of the innings.
The bowling is also mediocre, barring Noor Ahmad and Khaleel. Ashwin's homecoming has not been great so far, as he has averaged over 40 and conceded nine runs per over.
