Virat Kohli announced his Test retirement on May 12. His retirement call came as a huge surprise to Indian cricket fans and former Indian cricketers as well.
Given Kohli's love and dedication for Test cricket, his sudden decision to retire has left many surprised. Few former cricketers have criticised him for the timing of his decision.
The BCCI even asked Kohli to rethink his retirement decision ahead of the England Test series. However, Kohli was very sure about his decision to retire.

Former Indian captains Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar admitted that they did not find Virat Kohli's decision surprising. After announcing his Test retirement and with the IPL 2025 season postponed, Kohli decided to visit Vrindavan and meet spiritual guru Premanand Ji Maharaj at the Shri Hith Radha Keli Kunj Ashram. He visited him just a day after he announced his Test retirement.
Kohli visited Premanand Ji Maharaj with his wife Anushka Sharma. The duo took his blessings, and the spiritual guru also said a few wise words to the now ex-India Test cricketer.

After meeting Kohli, Maharaj ji asked him, "Prasanna ho (Are You Happy?) Kohli, with a sense of relief after his Test retirement, said "Ji Abhi Theek Hai (Yes I am Happy)".
Kohli retired from Test cricket with 9230 runs from 123 Test matches, having scored 30 Test centuries and averaging 46.85 in the format. He retired as the fourth-highest run-getter in the format for India and registered 40 wins in 68 matches as India's Test captain.
Virat Kohli's Statement On His Test Retirement
"As I step away from this format, it's not easy - but it feels right. I've given it everything I had, and it's given me back so much more than I could've hoped for," Kohli had announced on his Instagram page a couple of days ago.
