The main attraction of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was the drama at Lord's in the latter parts of Days 3 and 4. As the competition intensified, both teams kept the audience completely entertained by playing mind games and sledging.
India Fire First Shot in Lord’s Banter Battle as Crawley Faces the Heat
Interestingly, it was India who kicked things off with the on-field banter. Zak Crawley injured his finger off a Jasprit Bumrah delivery in the final over of Day 3. As Crawley paused to recover and delayed Bumrah’s run-up, the clock kept ticking. Only six minutes were left in the day, and India were planning to squeeze in one more over.
Crawley’s delay tactics drew a fiery reaction from Indian skipper Shubman Gill, who openly mocked him with words that sparked cheers from the Lord’s crowd. Interestingly, Crawley, who opened again on Day 4, was dismissed cheaply for 22 (49) in England’s second innings.

When India began their chase of 193, the tension carried into the final session. England’s players dished out some banter of their own, which worked well, as India lost three big wickets. With just three overs left in the day, Akash Deep was sent in as night watchman. During the penultimate over, he paused Brydon Carse mid-run-up in an apparent attempt to slow things down. The delay fired up Carse, and a brief verbal exchange followed between the two.
At the other end, KL Rahul remained a quiet observer, but England skipper Ben Stokes took a cheeky dig at him over India’s delay tactic. Rahul responded with a smile, keeping things cool.

However, the tactic didn’t pay off. In the final over, Ben Stokes dismissed Akash Deep with a ball that angled in and hit the stumps. England ended the day on a high, having taken four Indian wickets for just 58 runs.
As the players walked off to loud applause, all eyes turned to Day 5 at Lord’s India needing 135 runs with six wickets in hand to take the lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
