Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their Test retirements last week, which came as a big blow to the Indian cricket team and the fans in general.

Both of them decided to call it quits, with India scheduled to play a five-match Test series against England. With the duo retiring from the format, the BCCI is looking for options to plug the gap in the middle order.

While Shubman Gill is leading the race to become the next Test captain, Rishabh Pant is in the fray as well. There are several options the BCCI has to replace Virat Kohli at number four in the Test setup. KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Karun Nair, and Shreyas Iyer are some of the options the BCCI can consider.

India Looking For Options To Replace Kohli, Rohit

Now with both Kohli and Rohit retiring from Test and T20I cricket, they can be seen playing together only in the ODI format. India is scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a three-match ODI and T20I series. However, looking at the current Indo-Pak border tensions, the tour is likely to be called off. There are doubts over the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled later this year as well.

After the ODI series against Bangladesh, India will next play an ODI series against Australia in October 2025. The ODI series starts in Perth from October 19 onwards.

Kohli, Rohit To Play ODI World Cup 2027

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are still very integral parts of the ODI side. Rohit is still the leader of the ODI side. After the heartbreaking loss to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final at home, both are very determined to play in the next ODI World Cup to be played in South Africa,  along with Zimbabwe and Namibia, being the co-hosts.
