Akash Deep Shubman Gill starred in Edgbaston win

India defeated England by a big margin of 336 runs in the second Test at Edgbaston to draw level in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. The Men in Blue needed seven wickets to win on the final day of the Test match. More importantly, this was India's first win at Edgbaston.

Despite a delayed start, India managed to pick up the remaining wickets inside two sessions with Akash Deep picking up his maiden fifer and eventually finished with 10 wickets in the match. This was also Indias first win in their new WTC 2025-27 cycle after the loss at Headingley.

He was ably supported by the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. With all the talks being around Jasprit Bumrah's absence, Akash Deep shone bright and hogged the limelight with the ball in both the innings.

India Draw Level At Edgbaston In Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

The final day had a delayed start with India needing remaining three wickets to win. England at the start of the day's play needed 536 runs to win and they fell short by 336 runs. England were bowled out by 271 runs in the second innings with Jamie Smith scoring 88 runs on the back of his century in the first innings.

However, the story on day five was about Akash Deep and his immaculate bowling. He had already dismissed Ben Duckett, Joe Root and Ollie Pope on day 4. His first wicket on day five was Harry Brook (23 runs off 31 balls). Brook failed to read the indipper from Akash and was found plumb in front of the wickets.

The big turning point in the final day's play was the dismissal of Ben Stokes. On account of Ravindra Jadeja's quick over, Shubman Gill handed one more over to Washington Sundar before stumps which was the 41st over of England's innings. Sundar managed to beat the bat of Stokes which gave India a massive opening heading into lunch.

Since then it was India making all the right moves with skipper Shubman Gill ringing in the bowling changes and staying patient. The other big turning point in the game was the wicket of Jamie Smith in the 56th over. Chris Woakes then fell to a brilliant bouncer from Prasidh Krishna.

Brydon Carse came out swinging and was eventually the last wicket to fall after India had managed to pick up the wicket of Josh Tongue (2 runs from 29 deliveries) as Jadeja dismissed him. Fittingly, it was Akash Deep who took the final wicket to fall that of Carse. He came in as Bumrah's replacement and made a statement and an immediate impact with the ball.
