Rohit Sharma, the ODI skipper of the Indian cricket team, has recently started training with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Nayar worked closely with Rohit during his tenure with the Indian cricket team.

Now he is keeping his partnership up with Rohit even after he completed his tenure with the national team. Nayar was unfortunately sacked by the BCCI after losing the Test series against Australia. Morne Morkel the bowling coach and Ryan ten Doeschate, the fielding coach however, were allowed to continue.

Nayar has recently bagged a coaching role with the WPL team UP Warriorz and he is keen to end the title drought for the franchise in the WPL. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is currently away from the game along with Virat Kohli after retiring from T20I and Test cricket.

Earlier this year, he won the Champions Trophy title in March and then stepped aside from Test cricket just before the Test series against England in June. Virat Kohli also announced his Test retirement just days after Rohit made his announcement public.

Meanwhile, as per recent reports both Kohli and Rohit are not in BCCI’s plans for the ODI World Cup 2027. With a lot of young talent around the horizon, the BCCI is looking to phase out the senior players. Both of them will be in their 40s by the time the World Cup approaches. Meanwhile, recently he has started training with Abhishek Nayar, who has guided several top players such as KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, and Rinku Singh.

India To Play ODI Cricket In October-November 2025

The Indian cricket will be back to playing ODI cricket later this year in October against Australia, with the series against Bangladesh cancelled. After playing against Australia in October, India plays a three-match ODI series against South Africa before they take on a five-match series against the Proteas to end the year.
